Like many of the species in this subfamily, Danainae, the caterpillars feed on plants in the genus Asclepias, Milkweeds. These plants contain toxic compounds, which are often consumed and stored, making the species, unpalatable to most predators. As a result, the speciesβ coloration is widely mimicked by other species of butterflies.
